E-commerce Solutions

CLIENT:

Jack Pine Studio

SUMMARY:

Jack Pine is a fine art glass blower based in Columbus who sells his one of a kind glass pieces online, art shows, and galleries all over the country. Jack came to us when they decided they needed to update their stock of images for an upcoming website refresh. The images really needed to pop with color and clarity to showcase each piece’s intricacies.

SOLUTION:

We started by taking a few pieces of Jack’s glass back to the studio to test different lighting techniques which we presented to Jack and his team for approval. Once we had a base line to work from, we were able to photograph the rest of the pieces with our test shot as our reference to maintain consistency throughout. We also documented the studio set in great detail to reference for future shoots to maintain a consistent look.

CONSISTENCY EVEN WHEN THE PRODUCT IS ONE OF A KIND.

There’s a misconception about e-commerce and /or product photography that has been floating around for a long time, and it goes something like this…

ONCE THE LIGHTS ARE SET, CAN’T YOU JUST CRANK THROUGH A FEW HUNDRED SHOTS A DAY?

The very short answer is no…and yes — it depends.

Take a look at the images and notice that the hand blown glass looks very clean and crisp. As a group, they all look like they belong together – a good representation of the artist’s work. You’ll notice though, that some of the groupings have taller pieces, and some are shorter, which means the camera angle had to change. The lighter pieces needed to be lit slightly differently as to retain all the detail and so on.

And so no, you can’t just crank through a hundred shots in a day because each shot requires minor adjustments to the lights, and product placement to make each shot look it’s best. We can however, set up multiple sets and have more than one photographer shooting at a time if you’re under a tight deadline.

Do you have a products that need to be photographed for selling online? Need a more consistent look to your e-commerce images? Let’s talk and find a solution that works for you!
